Analysation of the Male Gaze

Beyoncé's music video 'Best Thing I Never Had' does feature the male gaze in it, which I believe is made from the very start all the way through to the end. It first appears when Beyoncé is shown getting ready for the staged wedding for the music video, and is in her room wearing just her lingerie.

The video is empowering, as it is showing Beyoncé splitting up with her fiancé right before the wedding. This action shows all women that you don't need a husband to be happy.

1) What makes all of these music videos from the dance music genre? The music's featured on each video are all up-beat and 'hip', which is why 'urban' settings and clothing's have been used throughout the video to create this representation of the 'hip hop/dance genre.
