TV Drama Opening Sequence Analysis

Dr Foster The Dr Foster opening title includes the main credits and a range of different objects. These consist of: a key to start with, a pregnancy test, a tie, lipstick, a bottle of wine, two wedding rings, a watch, bra, and a hair brush, followed by more significant items. The items appear to be floating along water, and the name of certain actors are also shown too. It isn't clear why the items are shown the way that they are, however it is most likely because each one is in the programme. Either at some point one of them gives a clue away to Dr Foster about her husbands affair, they're shown frequently through out all of the episodes, or they have/ feature/are a part of a key event that occurs. After the names and items have been shown, a much larger text appears which shows the title of the programme in big bold letters, above a slightly smaller sentence telling us who created and wrote Dr Foster. The Night Manager   For The Night Manager, the way they have cre

News: The Political Landscape of Britain

The Conservative Party Th is is the British party of the right, including a broad range of traditional conservatives and royalists, neo-liberals and social conservatives. For the last forty years, the party has been deeply divided over issues of sovereignty and the role of Britain in the European Union. The majority of party members are in favour of a revision of the terms of Britain's membership of the European Union, and the holding of a referendum on withdrawal. But other Conservatives, including industrial and business leaders, are strongly pro-European. Recent leaders have been beset by problems trying to reconcile the strongly opposing views of party members on this issue. UKIP - The UK Independence Party A sovereignist party that wants Britain to withdraw from the European Union. The party has little in the way of policies, apart from Europe-bashing, but is surprisingly popular with voters disgruntled with the perceived failures of the main parties . In the 2015 election

Analysation of the Male Gaze

Beyoncé's music video 'Best Thing I Never Had' does feature the male gaze in it, which I believe is made from the very start all the way through to the end. It first appears when Beyoncé is shown getting ready for the staged wedding for the music video, and is in her room wearing just her lingerie. The video is empowering, as it is showing Beyoncé splitting up with her fiancé right before the wedding. This action shows all women that you don't need a husband to be happy.

Analysis of TV Drama- Gender representation of Mad Men

After watching the first ever episode of TV drama, Mad Men, I can see that the male gaze has been used through out the programme to create a sexist view over the women characters. The producers have used camera techniques, sounds, editing and mise-en-scene to create a clear view over how women were seen in the 1960's, which is sexist and degrading to all women, even though from the time period that it is based off, these things would have been seen as normal. At the start of the short clip we watched, the scene opens with an Ariel shot of a birds eye view, looking down at the entrance of one of New York's many landscapes. An establishing shot shortly follows this, to show us the main setting, as the camera briefly pans from side to side before moving straight into the building's lobby. Here it focuses more on the three main male characters who are in the lift. Once up in the office, and the focus is moved onto two women who are talking, we see them moving around the offi

Male Gaze

Laura Mulvey coined the 'male gaze' in 1975 as being; how men look at women, how women look at themselves and how women look at other women. In films, audiences commonly 'view' characters from the male heterosexual perspective . This is because the camera often lingers on the curves of the female's body, and focuses on events based off the male's reactions to each events. It is relegated to the status of objects , and the female viewer must experience the narrative secondly . Theorists have also noted that the female body is commonly sexualised , even when really it has nothing to do with the advertised object. This can make the viewers lose focus over the original aimed focus of the images, whether that is in advertisement or films/videos. Taylor Swift: The music video shows a group of young models and singers, who split into two groups to try and overrule each other. At the start, the men are wearing eye masks which could be a link towards them being &

Representation of teenagers through Mail Online and The Guardian

The Guardian is a different format of newspaper to the Daily Mail, as it is more informative. People read the Guardian in order to get information, especially on current affairs in subjects such as politics, whereas the Daily Mail is more focused on celebs and crimes. Mail Online/ Daily Mail The images used are to try and draw in an audience. The public will see these images, and because the boy in the bigger picture looks quite young, it will attract people's attention, however it does fit into the stereotype that teenage boys are violent. Along with this image are two graphic images of the injuries caused, which again will draw in an audience who want to know what has happened, what caused this damage and how. Mail Online have created a fairly long headline, which can have two different effects. For some it may make them un-interested in the story as it could be long winded, yet to others it is more interesting as it gives a cliff-hanger affect because part of t

TV Drama Reviews

Game of thrones Originally George R.R. Martin's best-selling book series, also known as "A Song of Ice and Fire" this medieval fantasy show has proven to be very popular, which focuses on the depiction of two powerful families of kings and queens, knights and renegades, liars and honest men, all playing a d eadly game for the control over the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, and to sit atop the Iron Throne which is hugely looked up upon. Review: Games of thrones again is something I have never watched, however lots of people I know are big fans of it and would highly recommend it. I would say that the show is definitely targeted at people over the age of 16, as it involves many scenes that are inappropriate to younger viewers. It has proven to be very popular to a range of different audiences, as it appeals to many different preferences. The fantasy side of the show doesn't appeal to me, however because of how well spoken-about it is, I would definitely consider wa
