Statement of Intent

I intend to create a popular, well thought of, music video.  Along with the video, I'll also create an ideal website for the artist chosen, which will additionally have different links to accompanying pages all about the band/artist.  The typical codes and conventions of the dance genre music videos will carefully be followed during my work. I want to ensure it fits into the dance music genre. I will use different types of media language to do this, including using audio over my music video. I still need to select a choice of music, and make sure that it fits into the dance music genre, whilst also appealing to my target audience. I still haven't decided on a final song that I'd like to use. I will use a range of different camera angles and editing techniques in order to create an attractive, appealing and entertaining music videos which will appeal to my target audience. I'll need to consider the lighting and graphics when filming my video, as I would like to ensu

Target Audience- Culture

Rihanna's music video for the song ''We found love'' shows her living in a poverted area in Ireland. She plays a young girl, showing the struggles faced in everyday life, and how her relationship brings her happiness.

Dance Genre video analysis

Red Lights by Tiesto and Nobody to love by Sigma are both songs from the dance genre. Their individual music videos show similar conventions in their actions. Both videos have upbeat music, playing in unison to the editing of the video as well as a constant rhythm throughout. Both videos also heavily imply their dance genre, as a main feature of them includes dancers moving along to the music. The representation of gender (particularly women) is shown greatly in these two videos and is politically incorrect in the representation.    The video by Tiesto begins in a lower class American diner, with a tracking shot of a working waitress. This shot most likely uses a hand held camera to give the video a sense of realism, which is carried out throughout the continuity of the video and constructs the narrative performance to look like a 'home video'.  The performance as a narrative itself follows two young women taking a spontaneous journey.  The video uses many close up shots with

History of Dance Music

Intro to Dance Music : Dance music is music composed specifically to accompany dancing. It can be either a whole musical piece or part of a larger musical arrangement., and has a clear beat to which the audience usually 'move along' to. It originates from Traditional African Music, and was then developed through the Caribbean, into the USA merging into Disco. Disco Music: Disco music is a style of music which emerged in the early 1970's. It came from America's urban nightlife scene, originally formed in housed parties and discothèques. The peak of disco music's popularity was between the years of the mid 1970's to the early 1980's and features reverbed vocals due to this. The rhythm follows a strong 4/4 structure, and consists of a fast tempo and luscious orchestra arrangements. A guitar often drives the song's energy, and will most commonly be with syncopated bass lines. Another feature of Disco music is the escapist lyrics about love and d

Conventions of Dance Genre

Dance music has a range of different conventions in order to fit it into the specific genre, which additionally attracts a certain audience. These conventions include: usually, dance music is pop music remixed to create a new beat inside the original song beat drops are common, and will often follow on from a large build up of rhythm before the initial drop many songs also have an electronic feature, and the artist/band singing the songs are edited to change their sound there is also a gradual tempo, which builds up during the song, and will normally happen once or twice throughout the whole song repetition is also used a lot in dance music, and consists of certain sections of the song being repeated, if not all of it

Music Artists: Websites

http://www.khalidofficial.com/ Khalid is   an American singer and songwriter signed to Right Hand Music Group and RCA Records. His music is in the Rhythm and Blues genre, and is best known for his songs ''Young, dumb and broke'' and ''Location''. His songs are aimed at a target audience of young adults and teen agers, but are enjoyed by many people from all different age groups.   Use of Images: When you click onto his official website, the first thing you see is a pop-up promoting his newest album. The link gives an image of the album's front cover, and says ''available now'', followed by the logos of big music players, sellers and apps. The website background can be seen behind the image, but is slightly darker and isn't fully on show. The actual website is simple but attractive, much like the singer's music. A large image of Khalid stood on a beach or dessert is the websites back ground image, and Khalid c

Advertisement Comparisons

Gucci Bamboo: This advert is for a female Gucci perfume called Bamboo. It shows model Gal Gadot wearing a revealing silver dress, matched with silver jewellery and quite natural make up. The dress is a low-cut one, which shows all of her back, as it makes her look quite vulnerable and 'attractive' to both the female and male eye. It has been used to represent Gadot as an idol for women, as she is young and admirable, so it is hoped that with her presence in the advert, women will see her as someone they might aspire to be and go and buy the perfume. The silver jewellery and natural make up have been used to imply her worth, as silver is expensive and 'rich'. Along with this, the perfume bottle is also silver which relates to the idea of richness and expensive buys, just like the perfume, dress and jewellery.

Video Analysis: Burn the Witch- Radiohead

T he British children’s TV series the 'Trumptonshire Trilogy’ inspired the Burn the Witch music video by Radiohead. The video shoes an inspector being given a tour around a small town by the mayor. The town itself seems pretty normal, neat and well under-control, however it soon becomes clear this isn't the case as we are introduced to the local residents. From trying to drown one neighbour, to tying someone else up to a tree, the inspector, and equally the audience, are quickly aware not everything is as perfect as it seems, and that the town's residents are actually violent and dangerous on a day to day basis. We see the end of the video showing the inspector being tricked into a large wooden cage-type figure, which has been similarly seen in the 1973 British horror film 'The Wicker Man'. Once locked inside its 'stomach', it is then set alight by the town's people, from which we assume the inspector is left to die, but are shown otherwise as he is see

Magazine Analysis: The Big Issue

This big issue cover is from November 2017. It features the well known character Paddington Bear, from the many books, movies and programmes made of him. The image of him has been used as both an advertisement for the new film being released, and as a link to the homeless and immigrants from other countries. being part of our community. The image is set in a snowy, night-time London. Homelessness is a big issue faced in the city of London, and as the film is also set there it has a strong link to both of its messages towards the readers. The Big Issue cover features the 'British icon' Paddington in the snow, and is both paying homage to the popular fiction bear and highlighting the issues of homelessness in London at Christmas time.  The background shows us that it is in London, as we can see city buildings and, the most obvious clue, Big Ben's famous clock tower. Just behind Paddington, we can also see the Thames to the right of the image, which once again adds p

Research: Dance Music Videos

  1) What makes all of these music videos from the dance music genre? The music's featured on each video are all up-beat and 'hip', which is why 'urban' settings and clothing's have been used throughout the video to create this representation of the 'hip hop/dance genre. A stereo-typical urban area has retro clothing and what is typically known as 'street style', which has been incorporated into both of the videos.   2) Explore how the artists are using representation to appeal to their target audience in these three videos by picking out key frames from the video to analyse:   3) What other music videos could you find from the same genre? Advertisement analysis: Old Spice Freshest Places

This Old Spice advert has used the male actor featured in their TV advert. The man is shown with a beach on his body, which can relate to the 'freshness' in the name 'Freshest Places'. Typically the target audience f or Old Spice was a older and mature audience however, this advert has been created to appear more ap pealing to a younger audience in order to increase sales of the aftershave. The out door setting has been used, along with tiny figures, as a visual metaphor for how clean and fresh the Old Spice deodorant can make you smell, which encourages the attraction from the younger audience. The heavily edited advert links with the slogan that is featured on the right hand side of the page. A volcano is placed on top of the mans head, which may have been used to imply power and manly hood, inputted by the use of the spray. It may be used to represent the explosive and strong scent of the deodorant as it portrays the masculine element.  The model is portrayed

Preliminary Production Evaluation (Moving Image)

- Wear brown shoes after six:   Firstly, upon looking at the shot involving the brown shoes, I believe it accurately resembles the original video in terms of placement of the camera and the mise en scene used in it. The shot itself is a medium to close up shot and is taken statically with minimal movement in both. In our shot, we like the original have included a small part of the car in the background, aswell as a slightly angled section of the door covering the top of the shot. With this though, we found it in fact hindered the shot slightly in terms of lighting, because when taking our video the flash from the camera focused on and illuminated the door - leaving the rest of the shot to be too dark. Another small yet noticeable difference of the two shots, is that in the original you see the street lighting in the back whereas even though in ours it is visible that they are stepping onto tarmac, there shoes are covered in a wall of darkness - almost missing the original idea o

Close The Loop: Textual Analysis

This shot shows a young black female in a London underground tunnel. The voice over of this clip says ''mix prints'', which is exactly what she is doing. Normally, people say 'don't mix your prints' which is pretty self explanatory and states that more then one different print shouldn't be mixed with others, however the featured outfit includes 4 different clothing items that have a mixture of styles and prints involved. Despite the ''well known rule' of one pattern per outfit, the woman contradicts this as she poses confidently in her outfit.

Statement of Intent

Media Language- The key images I have used on my billboard posters are my model in the fair trade products I am trying to sell. On both posters, the image is large, clear, and stands out, so it will easily be noticed by people and attract an audience. My model is in two different settings and because of this, it makes the audience more interested in the products. The fact she is wearing different outfits on each photo is beneficial as it gives us a chance to advocate more of our products in one shoot. I've chosen to use a 'flowing' font for the logo, however all other details are in a much more stronger and bolder text, as this will make the reader more interested in reading the information because it isn't just set the same and looks more appealing.

Logo and Billboard Plan

Below we have my logo idea. It is good because it involves the brand's name, and so it is easily recognisable. The writing is big and bold, ho wever could become an issue as it isn't the most legible of fonts. After this we have the plan of my billboard advertisement. It is the quick drawing of the model position and pose, and the logo, to show me roughly how my finished poster will look, and help me to see any things I'd like to change. My third image is the same as the second, however it includes annotations and labels around the outside frame. I am fairly happy with my plan other then a few small changes, so therefore my notes aren't very detailed.

Ownership and Regulation

What does regulation means? Regulation: The owners of newspapers sometimes influence the editorial stance of a newspaper. Newspapers will also try to influence how the public vote in elections., so it is always important that newspapers stick to a code of conduct or rules set out by independent organisations.  Britain’s most right-winged newspaper is voted The Daily Mail, and a total of 81% of the public considered the paper to be right-wing. The majority of people consider the Times to be either slightly right of centre or fairly right-wing, so therefore it is seen as the least right-wing of the right-wing papers. At the left end of the spectrum, the mirror comes second, after the Guardian, in Britain’s most left-wing newspapers, as slightly more considered the Guardian to be “left-wing”, at 16% compared to The Mirror’s 11%. Due to government control, the free press in the UK is very important. Certain stories may get to the public domain that wouldn't of been able to wi

Research- High Street Fashion brands

This Dorothy Perkins  poster is very simple but therefore makes the product being advertised seem more attractive. The plain background has been turned a dusty-pink shade because it is simple but will easily catch the attention of an audience as the poster itself stands out. On top of this, they have placed a plain white coat which in many cases wouldn't be very interesting or eye catching. Once the background of the poster has been spotted, the product will also be noticed, therefore increasing the popularity of the product. In any other back ground, it may not be as nice, however pink and white work well together to produce this attractive image. The name of the shop has been put in bold black letters, but aren't very big. The font Dorothy Perkins uses in their labels is featured as it is recognisable and related to that specific shop. The model herself is wearing quite natural makeup, and doesn't appear to be wearing other clothes under the coat. This could be show
